About the name Bridget
Bridget honours both a Celtic fire goddess and Ireland's second patron saint, an unusually seamless handover from pagan to Christian. It was so ubiquitous among Irish immigrants that it became a slur for a housemaid, a stigma it took most of a century to shed.
Bridget is a girl name of Irish (Gaelic) origin, pronounced BRIJ-it. On the NameRarity scale it scores 69 out of 100, which places it in the rare band — recognisable but seldom used. Distinctive without needing to be spelled out twice. Its strongest period was the 1960s.
