About the name Octavia
Roman families numbered their children, and Octavia simply marked the eighth — a bluntly clerical origin for a name that now sounds anything but. Octavia E. Butler gave it a second life as shorthand for visionary, and usage has crept upward in her wake.
Octavia is a girl name of Latin origin, pronounced ok-TAY-vee-ah. On the NameRarity scale it scores 70 out of 100, which places it in the rare band — recognisable but seldom used. Distinctive without needing to be spelled out twice. Its strongest period was the 2010s.
