About the name Thangam
Thangam is the Tamil word for gold used straight as a name, and in Tamil households it doubles as an endearment a mother might call a child regardless of what is on the birth certificate. It carries a distinctly mid-century village warmth that younger urban parents have largely set aside, which is exactly why it now reads as heirloom rather than dated.
Thangam is a girl name of Tamil origin, pronounced THUNG-um. On the NameRarity scale it scores 94 out of 100, which places it in the ultra rare band — fewer than 1 in 10,000 people carry this name. You will almost never meet another. Its strongest period was the 1950s.
