About the name Cedric
Walter Scott appears to have invented Cedric by misspelling the Saxon name Cerdic in Ivanhoe, and the error became a beloved Victorian favourite. It is huge in France, warmly familiar in Black American families, and pleasantly underused nearly everywhere else.
Cedric is a boy name of Literary (Old English) origin, pronounced SED-rik. On the NameRarity scale it scores 76 out of 100, which places it in the very rare band — a genuinely uncommon pick — most people have never met anyone with this name. Its strongest period was the 1990s.
